Subject: Concerning Whatcom Conservation District

President Tom Scott
York Neighborhood Association
President
Scott:
My
name is Larry Davis. I have served the citizens of Whatcom County as a member
of the Board of Supervisors for the Whatcom Conservation District for 11 years.
In early June, I sent a
communication that covers the same information as this follow-up letter.
Whatcom CD is working toward updating its current five-year plan. Toward that end, it is important that we touch base with as many citizens and communities as possible. Since 1946, Whatcom CD has been helping landowners and farmers of Whatcom County conserve and wisely use natural resources. The District works at the intersection of people and place – providing an ecological understanding and deep connection to the land, resources, and economy -- promoting responsible stewardship, sustainable land management, and support for natural resource-based economies.
The next five-year plan will cover 2021-2026. I write to encourage your consideration of two ways to provide input to the District board:
A. Complete the survey on the district website: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WCDLongRange.
The current 2017-22 long-range plan
is at: https://whatcomcd.org/sites/default/files/distbus/2017%20Long%20Range%20Program%20-%20final%20approved%201%2012%2017.pdf.
A general walk-through of the
overall site will provide excellent information about the breadth of
programs, services, and activities
we offer.
Funding information is at this
link: https://www.whatcomcd.org/rates-and-charges.
B. Part of our outreach effort is to request opportunities to meet with various community organizations, local governments, and the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Indian Tribe. I have made a number of presentations in recent months, all but one conducted via ZOOM. I am comfortable with this format and also willing to make a presentation in person subject to appropriate COVID considerations.
Thank you for considering these requests. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or the District Manager, George Boggs. In closing, we would appreciate if Association members were apprised of and encouraged to complete the survey.
Respectfully,
Larry Davis, Supervisor
